The North Dakota State Fair in Minot is a blur of rides, concerts, food and games each summer.

Nicknamed “The Magic City” for its initial rapid growth, Minot is the business and shopping hub for north-central North Dakota. The city’s historic downtown area is nestled in a valley carved out by the Souris River that flows through Minot from west to east, with hills rising up on the north and south sides of the city.

The Minot Public School District has 12 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools. Five private schools in the area serve grades ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school.

Minot State University offers training and education in a variety of career fields. Located 80 miles northeast of Minot, Dakota College at Bottineau is an affiliate campus of Minot State University. Additional areas of training are also available through the Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps Center.
